Wando Marina is located inside Wando Port, where calm-water conditions are favorable, giving it good development conditions. The area also has rich tourism and cultural content, including major domestic maritime cultural heritage sites and Dadohaehaesang National Park. In addition, government-operated yacht mooring facilities are available near Judo Island inside Wando Port, and can be used if yacht mooring is requested in advance.
Located on the southwestern end of the Korean Peninsula, along the western Jeonnam South Sea coast, this relatively low-latitude area is rainy, with annual average precipitation of 1,532.7 mm and 110 rainy days per year. The monthly average rainfall is 285.3 mm in July, the wet season, and 27.4 mm in December, the dry season, a difference of 258.3 mm and more than 10.4 times December's rainfall. The annual average temperature is relatively high at 14.1°C, and monthly average temperatures almost never fall below freezing. Summer highs are lower than in other regions and winter lows are higher, giving the area a mild maritime climate. Winds are mostly northerly to northwesterly throughout the year, and the annual average wind speed is somewhat strong at 3.6 m/s. When southeasterly winds blow, the fetch becomes longer and waves tend to be higher.
Around Wando, tidal currents rotate counterclockwise to the east and clockwise to the west. Maximum flood currents flow westward and northward along the shoreline, while ebb currents flow in the opposite direction. East of Wando, currents are strong at 3.1 kn, and most channels show about 1.9 kn. West of Wando, currents exceed 2.9 kn. Inside Wando Port, flood currents flow northwest and ebb currents flow southeast, with speeds of 1.5 kn and 1.4 kn respectively.
