The Uljin area borders the sea to the east and has southern east-coast topography, with the Taebaek Mountains forming steep slopes toward the East Sea to the west. Influenced by the warm East Korean Current, it is generally mild with a small temperature range, and rainfall is lower than inland areas, although orographic precipitation occurs frequently under northeasterly airflows. The annual average temperature is 12.6°C, annual average precipitation is 1,119.0 mm, and average wind speed is 3.8 m/s. In summer (June-August), the normal average temperature is 21.9°C, precipitation is 501.4 mm, and average wind speed is 4.0 m/s; cool, humid easterly winds flow in under the influence of the Okhotsk High, making conditions cool.
