Located inside Susan Port, this marina has a clubhouse and mooring facilities for about 60 yachts. By operating marine leisure sports experience classes linked with a yacht school, it attracted about 130,000 visitors in 2013, and about 6,000 people complete its free yacht school each year, making it the largest marina facility on the East Sea coast. In the future, it plans to expand mooring facilities to 100 vessels, add yacht repair and convenience facilities, and develop a variety of yacht-tour products.
The northern Yeongdong region is located in northeastern Gangwon-do. The Taebaek Mountains extend north-south and include large and small mountains at elevations of 800-1,700 m, including Daecheongbong Peak of Seoraksan, the main peak at 1,708 m, and Hyangnobong Peak at 1,293 m. Mountain areas around the high ridges have mountain-climate characteristics, while the steep slopes of Seoraksan meet the sea in a long, narrow, simple form, creating many weather characteristics close to a maritime climate. Representative examples include Yangganjipung, a strong wind caused by mountain effects when southwesterly winds from migratory high-pressure systems in the southern region cross the Taebaek Mountains in spring; foehn effects caused by high mountains when southwesterly air flows in; and precipitation and low temperatures caused by northeasterly airflows.
