Gangneung Marina is a yacht marina facility completed in 2010 to promote marine leisure and yachting in the East Sea region. It was the first marina facility in Korea developed as a private marine investment project. With a clean environment, food, attractions, and opportunities to experience yachting, it is a good place for memorable vacation experiences. In particular, the six-story clubhouse offers views of the harbor and Anmok Beach, and its convenience facilities, including cafes, play an important role in attracting many visitors to Gangneung Port.
The Gangneung area has a varied and complex climate between the coastal area facing the East Sea and the mountain area adjoining the Taebaek Mountains, so climate values can differ between mountain and coastal locations even within Gangneung-si. The annual average temperature is 13.1°C, with annual average highs and lows of 17.5°C and 9.2°C. The climate is milder than the west coast at the same latitude, and summers are cooler than areas west of the Taebaek Mountains. Annual average precipitation is 1,464.5 mm. By month, precipitation is concentrated in summer from July to September, while winter monthly averages from December to February are around 40-60 mm, a large contrast with summer. August in particular has high average precipitation of 298.9 mm. The annual average wind speed in Gangneung is 2.6 m/s. Strong winds are frequent in winter and spring, and inflows of northeasterly air tend to bring poor weather and precipitation regardless of season.
